  JOB SUMMARY:

The Lieutenant is a member of the Detective Investigators Bureau whose responsibility will include the supervision and management of a team of investigators. The Lieutenant will supervise the daily activities of his team, coordinate with other supervisors and monitor the progress of his team’s investigations. The Lieutenant is accountable to the Deputy Chiefs and the Chief Detective Investigator.

 

  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Daily Activity reports.
  2. Team Management.
  3. Investigative Case reviews.
  4. Status updates to the D/C and Chief.
  5. Ability to access various computer databases.
  6. Ability to liaison with other law enforcement agencies and financial institutions.

 

  JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Supervises and coordinates work of employees engaged in rackets investigations.
  2. Supervising staff and managing fieldwork, consisting of surveillance and undercover operations.
  3. Controls, coordinates and participates in varied and complex investigations.
  4. Correlates information gathered by investigators and evaluate it with the prosecutors.
  5. Conducts the most difficult and confidential investigations.
  6. Trains subordinates in specialized technical procedures and methods.
  7. Prepares reports and maintains necessary records on activities.
  8. Performs related work and all other duties as assigned.

Note: Due to the necessary service needs of this position, incumbents may be required to work nights, weekends and holidays.

 

  QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS/PREFERRED SKILLS:

  1. Graduation from high school and either two (2) years of full-time, paid experience as a Senior Rackets Investigator or four (4) years of full-time, paid experience as a Rackets Investigator or satisfactory equivalent
  2. A valid New York State driver’ license with a minimum of two (2) years driving experience is mandatory
  3. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  4. Citizenship required.
  5. Three (3) year commitment to the hiring bureau.
  6. Must successfully pass a medical exam, psychological screening and intensive background.
  7. Current or renewable New York State Municipal Police Training Certification is preferred
  8. Extensive knowledge and investigative experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred: homicides, robberies and burglaries, major narcotics offenses, domestic violence, sex crimes, elder abuse, gangs, money laundering, governmental fraud, white collar crimes, traditional organized crime activity and the use of state of the art electronic investigative equipment.
