Description

 JOB SUMMARY:

  The Alternatives to Incarceration (ATI) Bureau is seeking Resource Coordinators to facilitate Bronx HOPE and other programming. The Bronx Heroin Overdose Prevention and Education (HOPE) program is a pre-arraignment diversion program being implemented in collaboration with Bronx Community Solutions (BCS), the New York Police Department (NYPD), Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice (MOCJ), and several community-based health providers. The program provides meaningful engagement between arrest and arraignment to individuals in the Bronx issued a Desk Appearance Ticket (DAT) for possession of a controlled substance. This is an innovative, new response to low-level possession of a controlled substance, an effort to be smarter about policing and prosecuting addiction- especially to opioids - by providing an alternative to incarceration. Addition programming includes several DAT, misdemeanor, and felony initiatives.

 

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Resource Coordinator will facilitate day-to-day referrals to Bronx HOPE and other programming, including liaising with Office staff, NYPD, Bronx Community Solutions, peer outreach providers, defense attorneys, court personnel, and social service providers to ensure timely and responsive participant engagement and outcomes. The coordinator will also be responsible for building relationships with court and community stakeholders and managing data monitoring, tracking, and reporting.

 

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  Specific duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Screen criminal cases for eligibility for the Heroin Overdose Prevention and Education (HOPE) program and other alternative to incarceration programming
  2. Initiate case outreach, ensure dispatch of peer coach, and communicate with Bronx Community Solutions to coordinate engagement services and outcomes
  3. Review misdemeanor and felony criminal case information to determine eligibility for programming, including charges, arrest information, RAP sheet, plea offers and recommendations, pre-pleading investigations (PPI), medical records, etc.
  4. Liaise with ADAs to procure necessary documents to properly evaluate cases
  5. Ensure participants are matched to the appropriate programming based on needs and eligibility
  6. Maintain appropriate screening information in electronic databases and paper files
  7. Assist with data collection and management
  8. Accompany ADAS and Office staff to court to provide insight on program eligibility and/or compliance, including navigating any issues that arise
  9. Provide case updates to ADAs, ATI staff, and other court staff/stakeholders as needed
  10. Coordinate compliance updates and other court related proceedings with court staff, defense attorney, and community-based organizations
  11. Provide coverage for fellow resource coordinators, including day, night, and overnight shifts (weekends and holiday also)
  12. Maintenance of good courtroom relationships with all partners
  13. Participate in community outreach as necessary, including attendance at community functions, including, but not limited to community events and site visits to other programs, which may occur during evening hours and/or weekends
  14. Participate in trainings and attend staff meetings
  15. All other duties as assigned.

 

 PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s degree preferred, i.e., MPP, MPA, MSW, MPH; Bachelor’s degree required
  2. At least one year of experience working in a criminal court setting and/or human service field strongly preferred
  3. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds in a culturally-competent manner

 

 Note: Due to the necessary service needs of this position, the selected candidates will be required to work nights, weekends and holidays.
