Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Bronx District Attorney is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and detail-oriented individual for the position of Legislative Analyst (or Counsel) who is in support of criminal justice reform.  Under the supervision of Chief and Deputy Chief of the Strategic Enforcement and Intergovernmental Relations Division, this role is responsible for coordinating the District Attorney’s intergovernmental affairs and legislative portfolios, including serving as a liaison with local, state, and federal elected and appointed officials, non-governmental organizations, and professional associations.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  3. Proficient in Microsoft Office particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  4. Discretion and Integrity to work on highly confidential information.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Specific duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Develops and cultivates strong working relationships with local, state, and federal officials and other organizations.
  2. Analyzes and monitors local, state, and federal legislation to determine impact on the District Attorney’s goals and priorities.
  3. Prepares written memoranda and provides executive briefings on pending legislation, policy, and governmental initiatives.
  4. Works with internal and external stakeholders to craft legislation and policy that improves public safety and advances the District Attorney’s agenda.
  5. Coordinates interactions and other events between the Office and governmental and non-governmental organizations.
  6. Performs other duties to support the Strategic Enforcement and Intergovernmental Relations Division and the Office as a whole.

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree required. Graduate Degree (JD/MPA/MS) preferred.
  2. Three to Five years of public policy and/or legislative experience required, ideally in the criminal justice, law enforcement or prosecutorial profession. 
  3. Excellent understanding of the local, state, and federal legislative process.
  4. Strong interpersonal, communications and research/writing skills.
  5. A self-starter with a proven ability to develop relationships at all levels of government and non-governmental organizations.
  6. Prior event and project management experience preferred.
  7. Ability to work varying hours, including nights and weekends, to meet the demands of multiple priorities and internal/external engagements.
