JOB SUMMARY:
The Bronx District Attorney’s Office is seeking a well-qualified staff whose diverse backgrounds reflect an ability to serve the over 1.3 million members of the Bronx County community and pursue a safer Bronx through fair justice. The General Counsel Division is seeking a dynamic candidate for the position of Assistant District Attorney within the Conviction Integrity Unit (CIU). Although the accuracy of a conviction has always been a part of the District Attorney’s mandate, the creation of a sophisticated unit dedicated to improving the quality and integrity of prosecutions throughout the Office is relatively new. CIU intends to be a national leader in the field. CIU reviews post-judgment claims of actual innocence and wrongful conviction in our most serious cases. In addition, CIU is responsible for helping to implement best practices in our current prosecution of cases, ensuring compliance with all legal and ethical obligations.

Job Responsibilities
Including but not limited to:
  • Conduct fact-based extra-judicial reviews of post-judgment claims of innocence.
  • Thoroughly reinvestigate cases.
  • Make recommendations to the District Attorney as to whether the conviction should stand.
  • Work closely with Executive Staff, Trial Division Supervisors, the Legal Training Unit, and Professional Responsibility Bureau to help implement and follow best practices in our current prosecution of cases, and to ensure compliance with all legal and ethical obligations.
  • Participate in a variety of training programs within the Office.
  • Meet with representatives of other prosecuting offices along with innocence organizations.
Qualifications
  • A Juris Doctorate degree
  • US Citizenship and New York State Residency are required
  • Member in good standing of the NY State Bar. You must provide an original current certificate of good standing
  • Minimum three years of experience handling serious violent felonies as a trial or post-conviction prosecutor or defense attorney
  • Ability to conduct competent resourceful investigations
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and strong ethics
  • Ability to analytically solve issues or problems from inception through conclusion
  • Exhibit an ability to maintain confidentiality of information
