Description
Under the direction of the Deputy Administrative Chief of Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist, in collaboration with the HR team, will work to ensure that all operational goals and procedures are identified and met.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for the day-to-day HR operations, including, but not limited to:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Must maintain a strict order of confidentiality and handle issues in a discreet manner
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail
- Exercise sound, independent judgment and initiative
- Proficient in Microsoft Office particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Attend recruiting events occasionally.
- Provide employees with information pertaining to agency policies and specific rules and regulations
- Introduce and implement best HR practices and processes
- Provide employees with general information on pension system (NYCERS).
- Maintain personnel files
- Assist with special projects and attend unit and citywide meeting
- Interpret and communicate employee policies and procedures code of conduct to staff;
- Advise, in conjunction with HR Director, all levels of management of the proper handling of existing or anticipated labor issues;
- Play key role to align personnel resources to effectively and proactively support BXDA.
- Act as a change agent and bring new creative approaches and best practices management to support BXDA growth and professional development program
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- A baccalaureate degree
- 2-4 years of human resources experience within NYC government
- Knowledge of payroll, timekeeping, benefits administration, and general human resources policies and procedures
- Experience working with City HRMS systems and applications, such as NYCAPS, PRISE, PMS, CHRMS, and City Time
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong analytical and computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to maintain a high level of discretion and confidentiality
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interface with all levels at the agency
- Ability to effectively multi-task and prioritize
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
