JOB SUMMARY:
The Bronx District Attorney’s Office is seeking a well-qualified staff whose diverse backgrounds reflect an ability to serve the over 1.3 million members of the Bronx County community and pursue a safer Bronx through fair justice. The Stenographic Services is seeking a Reporter/Stenographer (Provisional) who will take confidential Grand Jury testimony, which often entails sensitive matters and expert testimony, to be transcribed expeditiously.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Reports to the Grand Jury to take verbatim testimony on Stenographic machine
- Uses Case Catalyst System to produce transcripts
- Keeps accurate records and files of cases
- Appears in court to testify as to of statements or testimony and of surrounding interrogations
- Ability to take to voice testimony at an average rate of 175 words per minute
- Must be able to transcribe testimony in a timely fashion using Case Catalyst System for Assistant District Attorney (ADA) and Judge inspection
- Will read back testimony from notes for Grand Jury and/or court proceedings
- Transcription of CDs and/or tapes for ADAs
- All other duties as assigned
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- A High School diploma or equivalent and a Graduate Certificate at 225 WPM from a Court Reporting Institution
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Must be able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
Note: Generally, hours for the position are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. However, work outside those hours may occasionally be necessary depending on the Grand Jury Schedule.
