Description

 JOB SUMMARY:

  Meets with and provides crisis intervention, supportive counseling, advocacy, referrals, court accompaniment, notifications, and assistance with filing for entitlements. Works solely with strangulation cases and closely with the Office’s Domestic Violence Bureau acting as a liaison between assigned assistant district attorney’s and victims. Will attend meetings and provide educational presentation on topics related to strangulation and the identification of lethality indicators. The advocate will follow up on notifications received from the Police Department.

 

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Speaks and writes Spanish fluently
  2. Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  3. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Office particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook
  5. Discretion and Integrity to work on highly confidential investigations
  6. Ability to both interact and be comfortable with a diverse population

 

 JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  Specific duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Contact strangulation victims, schedule appointment, conduct assessments and provide ongoing supportive services
  2. Referrals to appropriate services and maintains ongoing collaboration with other professionals
  3. Attends meetings both within and out of the office
  4. Participates and attends community events and special projects
  5. Maintains case files and statistical data
  6. Prepares and submits reports for funders
  7. Prepares PowerPoint presentations
  8. Perform all other duties as assigned.

 

 PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

   15. Master degree is required and a minimum of two (2) years working with victims/survivor, a law firm, governmental
         agency, civic or community organization

   16. A valid New York State driver’s license with a minimum of two (2) years of driving experience is required
         and must be maintained for the duration of employment

   17. Ability to take initiative to implement systems to ensure that work is done both accurately and efficiently

   18. Comfortable working in a fast paced non-structured environment

   19. Willing to work evening and/or weekends as needed
