JOB SUMMARY:
The Bronx County District Attorney seeks an experienced attorney (10+ years) with outstanding management and supervisory skills to supervise attorneys in the Public Integrity Bureau. This bureau investigates and prosecutes criminal cases involving corruption and misconduct by public servants, government employees and appointed and elected officials. In addition, on a 24 hour, on-call basis, this bureau responds to police-involved shootings and deaths of individuals in the custody of the New York City Police Department and the New York City Department of Correction in Bronx County. Reporting to the Investigations Deputy Division Chief, the Bureau Chief will serve as the leader of the Public Integrity Bureau, overseeing the day-to-day operation of the bureau, prosecutions, training, and management of the bureau and all of its units and staff, both Legal and support.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Develop and implement prosecution strategies to aid in the effective handling of criminal cases in Bronx County
- Oversee assignment of cases
- Report to Deputy Division Chief regarding the productivity of the Bureau
- Motivate, organize, and direct all levels of staff in various responsibilities
- Train staff on Federal and State statutory and case law regarding criminal procedure and penal law
- Participate in meetings and conferences between the District Attorney’s Office and other law enforcement agencies
- Serve on the faculty for the Office’s Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs, including
- Conduct orientation training for new Assistants, Grand Jury training, and both Felony and Misdemeanor Trial Training programs
- Supervise Bureau staff including, but not limited to, attendance, training and development
- Prepare case status and statistical reports, as required
- Be on-call on rotating nights/weekends to handle response to cases and make case assessments
- Interact with members of the community and families of victims
- Respond to crime scenes
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
- US Citizenship required
- New York State residency required
- A Juris Doctorate degree, 10+ years of trial experience or the equivalent required
- Four years of management and/or supervisory experience preferred
- Excellent people skills and demeanor
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
- Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
- Excellent presentation and organizational skills
- Ability to exercise good judgment and strong ethics
- Ability to analytically solve issues or problems from inception through conclusion
- Working knowledge of investigative methods
- Ability to respond clearly and effectively (oral/written) to complex legal issues
