JOB SUMMARY:

The Bronx District Attorney is seeking an experienced attorney to serve as Bureau Chief of the Office’s Child Abuse/Sex Crimes Bureau. This Bureau investigates and prosecutes all felonies and misdemeanors involving child abuse and sex crimes. The Bureau also contains the Child Abuse Response Team, which annually receives over 4,000 NY State Central Registry reports of Child Abuse and liaisons with NYPD and the Administration of Children’s Services (ACS) in following up on these reports. The Bureau works with the Office’s Crime Victim’s Assistance Unit where social workers and counselors work closely with attorneys to provide victims with needed support. Reporting to the Special Victims Division Chief, the Chief of the Child Abuse/Sex Crimes Bureau will serve as the leader of the Bureau, overseeing prosecutions, training, and management of the Bureau and all of its units.
 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Develop and implement prosecution strategies to aid in the effective handling of cases 
  2. Manage, direct, and supervise approximately 30 ADAs including supervisory staff, in the investigation and prosecution of cases
  3. Oversee assignment of cases
  4. Report to the Special Victims Division Chief regarding the productivity of the Bureau
  5. Have regular interagency contact and collaboration with agencies such as but not limited to NYPD, ACS, the Bronx Child Advocacy Center, Bronx SART (Sexual Assault Response Team), and various Bronx Hospital-Based Programs
  6. Serve on the faculty for the Office’s Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs, including Orientation Training for new Assistants, Grand Jury Training, and both Felony and Misdemeanor Trial Training programs.
  7. Day-to-day supervision responsibilities of Bureau staff including, but not limited to, attendance, training and development
  8. Represent the Office on interagency and external committee and organization meetings
  1. Oversee approximately fifteen support staff for the Bureau
  2. Perform all other related duties and projects as designated
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

    11    A Juris Doctorate degree and a minimum of 8 years’ trial experience, eighteen months in a supervisory capacity.
    12    Firm knowledge of, and experience with, New York’s Penal Law and Criminal Procedure Law   
    13.   Three years’ experience in the prosecution of Special Victim cases.
    14.   Management experience

    US Citizenship and New York State Residency are required. Salary is commensurate with experience.
