JOB SUMMARY:

The Planning and Analysis Unit of the Bronx District Attorney’s Office is responsible for the research, submission, implementation, and reporting associated with all federal, state and local grant applications. The Unit assists in the implementation of New York City initiatives/ programs that involve the D.A.’s Office, including the management and analysis of all project data. This unit is staffed by a Director, Assistant Director, and a Research Analyst. The Director’s responsibilities include research into future grant opportunities, research and development of other related projects, the development and preparation of the City Council Preliminary Budget, as well as other related administrative reports and documentation.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

 

  1. The Director of Planning and Analysis reports directly to the Chief Assistant District Attorney, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment
  2. Oversee the research, development, submission, implementation, and reporting of all grant applications to federal, state, local, and private funding sources
  3. Assist in the development of the Office’s major reports, including City Budget Hearing documents and the Office’s Annual Report
  4. Advise the District Attorney on grant programs and initiatives to enhance prosecutorial practices and improve public safety
  5. Advise Division Chiefs, ADAs, and support staff on research methods and data analysis
  6. Establish and maintain a database of reports on data pertaining to the Bronx and Criminal Justice including reports from the NYS Office of Court Administration, Division of Criminal Justice Services, NYPD, and various federal, state, city, and private sources
  7. Prepare management reports describing current trends in crime, case processing, demographic data for the Bronx and other NYC counties
  8. Review programs listed in government legislations, state, federal, and discretionary funding registers and announcements
  9. Write and prepare grant proposals
  10. Notify bureau chiefs/unit directors of the availability of funds for programs relevant to their bureau/unit and assist with proposal development and related project details
  11. Establish and maintain relationships with public and private funding sources
  12. Regular collaboration with government partners and research organizations on City-wide initiatives and programs
  13. Monitor and assist in the preparation and submission of quarterly progress reports to funding agencies
  14. Verifiable successful experience in technical writing, proof-reading, editing, copy writing, grant writing or other equivalent written communication
  15. Perform all other related duties and projects as assigned

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree required, Masters or Doctoral degree in criminal justice research/ studies, social sciences, and/ or public policy preferred.
  2. A minimum of five (5) years professional grant writing experience, preferably in a non-profit or public sector setting.
  3. Minimum of 3-5 years supervising the work of others (including peer review of grant writing and research methods)
  4. Ability to exercise good judgment and strong ethics
