JOB SUMMARY:

The Bronx District Attorney is committed to serving the 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community through the Office’s groundbreaking mission of “Pursuing Justice with Integrity” by fulfilling our duty to victims and providing fairness to defendants. Over the summer, the Bronx District Attorney’s Office will conduct an eight-week internship program that will immerse students in the real-world work of criminal justice. College interns are compensated at $16 per hour. Interns work full-time, Mondays through Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  This internship is fully in-person.  Interns are assigned to a specific bureau within the Office and are directly supervised by an Assistant District Attorney or the Director of the Unit or Bureau.

  

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

College interns are given hands-on tasks that will familiarize them with the criminal justice system through the perspective of the prosecutor. Interns will aid in discovery, may observe witness interviews, hearings, and trials, listen to and transcribe 911 calls, and review police reports. Depending on their assignment, interns may participate in arrest intake processing, evaluations of notifications of child abuse or endangerment, or assisting in the review of materials to be disclosed to the defense. The interns will attend lectures and participate in a training program alongside the law student interns.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Required: Current college sophomores or junior students with a GPA of 3.0 or above.*
  • Preference is given to local students.
  • Selected candidates will have to pass a background check before the start of the internship.
  • Demonstrated interest in public service or criminal law.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

 

*If you have already graduated from college or are graduating in May or June of 2024, you may not apply.
