Job Summary:
The Bronx District Attorney’s Office is seeking college students for its summer internship program. The internship will begin on June 3, 2019, and end on July 26, 2019. Interns work full time, Mondays through Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Interns are assigned to a specific bureau within the Office and are directly supervised by an Assistant District Attorney or the Director of the Unit or Bureau.
Job Responsibilities:
College interns are given hands-on tasks that will familiarize them with the criminal justice system through the perspective of the prosecutor. Interns will observe witness interviews, hearings, and trials, listen to and transcribe 911 calls, and review police reports. Depending on their assignment, interns may participate in arrest intake processing, evaluations of notifications of child abuse or endangerment or assisting in placement of defendants in alternatives to incarceration programs. The interns will attend weekly lectures given by members of the criminal justice community and may participate in field trips to the NYPD Firing Range, Rikers Island and Community Outreach outings.
Preferred Education and Experience/Qualifications:
Current college students with a GPA of 3.0 or above.
Selected candidates will have to pass a background check prior to the start of the internship.
Demonstrated interest in public service and/or criminal law.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
Ability to problem solve.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
