JOB SUMMARY:
Under supervision, with latitude for independent judgment and initiative, the Investigator is responsible for conducting a wide variety of
criminal investigations.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Excellent computer skills and the ability to learn industry related databases is required
2. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access and
3. Ability to follow directions and apply proper procedures, policies and guidelines.
4. Ability to interact with all levels of staff and other law enforcement agencies
 
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Specific duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
5. Escort prisoners to and from Video Statement room; debrief prisoners, and assists ADAs in obtaining video statements in a safe environment.
6. Develop information, cultivate confidential informants and communicate intelligence.
7. Investigate a variety of complaints and criminal activity; including but not limited to frauds, larceny, public corruption, narcotics, gang related crimes, elder and child abuse, organized crime, racketeering and provide pre-trial support and accurately report findings
8. Perform undercover work and provide support to undercover operations
9. Locate and interview complainants and witnesses
10. Participate in search warrants and secure and preserve evidence
11. Participate in court authorized electronic surveillance
12. Utilize and maintain proficiency in law enforcement related equipment
13. Testify in court relating to facts uncovered during investigations
14. Prepare detailed written reports on interviews, activities and findings
15. Perform related work and all other duties as assigned
16. Perform prisoner transports and witness protection
17. Effectuate arrests
18. Insure the security and safety of agency employees and facility
 
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS/PREFERRED SKILLS:
19. A baccalaureate degree preferred;
20. Graduation from high school or its equivalent and three years of full-time, paid experience in police enforcement or investigative work, one year of which must have
been in rackets or police investigative work.
21. All candidates are required to have one year of full-time, paid experience in rackets or police investigative
work.
23. A valid New York State driver’ license with a minimum of two (2) years driving experience is mandatory
24. Citizenship required
25. Three (3) year commitment to the hiring bureau.
26. Must successfully pass a medical exam, psychological screening and intensive background check.
27. Current or renewable New York State Municipal Police Training Certification is required
