JOB SUMMARY:

The Bronx District Attorney’s Office is seeking a well-qualified staff whose diverse backgrounds reflect an ability to serve the 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community and to pursue a safer Bronx through fair justice. The Organized Criminal Activity Bureau (OCAB), within the Investigations Division, is seeking an experienced attorney (7+ years) to serve as Deputy Bureau Chief.  Reporting to the Bureau Chief, the Deputy will aid in all aspects of the supervision of OCAB, which is responsible for investigating and prosecuting pattern robberies, pattern burglaries, terroristic threats, murder-for-hire, organized crime, animal cruelty, child pornography, cybercrime, felony-level controlled substance cases and other criminal activity.  The Deputy Bureau Chief must have ample investigative experience, including the use of both traditional and non-traditional investigative techniques.  The Deputy Bureau Chief must also be capable of supervising a diverse team of attorneys that include junior ADAs and members of our Senior Investigative ADA staff.   

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee, supervise, and direct all investigations conducted by OCAB.
  • Review and assess the legal sufficiency of all applications for search warrants, pen registers and warrants pursuant to 2703(d).   
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with various state, local and federal law enforcement agencies.
  • Communicate across multiple organizational levels, both internally and externally.
  • Conduct in-depth case reviews and conferences.
  • Participate in training for office personnel and outside agencies.
  • Available nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • All other responsibilities as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Juris Doctorate degree, required.
  • 7+ years of experience, 12 months in a managerial role required.
  • US Citizenship and New York State Residency are required as of first day of employment.
  • Significant trial experience including, but not limited to, trials involving narcotics trafficking, robberies, burglaries, and other violent and organized criminal activity.
  • Significant experience conducting and leading long-term investigations into a wide range of criminality, including investigations into pattern robberies and burglaries, child pornography, animal cruelty, narcotics trafficking and other organized criminal activity.
  • A firm grasp of Criminal Procedure Law Articles 705, 690, the Stored Communications Act.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to understand and respond clearly and effectively (oral/written) to complex legal issues.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a large and diverse staff.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Strong business planning and forecasting skills.
  • Strong legal writing skills.
  • Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Excellent presentation and organizational skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and strong ethics.
  • Excellent people skills.
  • Ability to solve complex issues arising from investigations and case management problems from inception through conclusion both professionally and fairly.
  • Knowledge of NYS courts and the criminal justice system.
