JOB SUMMARY:
The U-Visa Preparation Assistant will be responsible for assisting in the investigation and preparation of all U and T Visa certifications. The U-Visa is a nonimmigrant visa for victims of crimes who are cooperative with law enforcement in the prosecution of the criminal activity. This position will report directly to the Director of Immigrant Affairs and confidentiality is of the utmost importance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Meticulous record keeping skills and ability to follow up; excellent organizational skills
- Readily take initiative to problem solve and work independently
- Proficient in Microsoft Office particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Discretion and Integrity to work on highly confidential investigations
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Offer immediate confirmation of receipt of all U and T Visa certification requests
- Obtain and review materials, including but not limited to case files, Grand Jury Minutes, in order to make a determination as to whether to provide a certification from our office
- Prepare certification paperwork, providing a cover letter, the certification, as well as any other necessary or pertinent information so that the authorized signer can be briefed and sign off
- Prepare letters denying certification requests when appropriate
- Maintain all records of all U and T Visa requests, certifications, and denials
- Any other related job duties
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
12. A baccalaureate degree preferred or a high school diploma with four (4) years of work experience in a law firm,
governmental agency, civic or community organization
13. A valid New York State driver’s license with a minimum of two (2) years of driving experience is required and must
be maintained for the duration of employment
14. Familiarity with general court services and functions
15. Fluency in Spanish preferred
